Poem 47: These Streets That I Know

once apon a time

he would have

fought the world

for her

but now they fight

in a shop doorway

young man

young wife.

by a bus stop

raining

a large man

shelters

a small dog

under his jacket.

women

with folded arms

talking the day

into a stand still.

the concrete lives

as misty columns

guarding the wells

of morning silence.

__________________

shouting

the dearly

beloved

easy

early

evening

street

Amen.

into lines of grey

the city

gave rain

a cloudy day.
