in a time apart
from time
you asked me
for nothing
and I gave you
a burning field
in bright sunshine
a warm shoulder
of sitting grey
and so far away
a place
without reason

in a time
apart from time
you asked me
for nothing
and I gave you
a night of tears
with another friend
and a morning
silent in question
dark then light
with the understanding
of an open hand.

now this time
in time
you ask me
for a poem
so I hold you
and give you
back your eyes
that you may see
as I see
that really
there was no need
to write
a single line
