Poem 132: In This Darkness

we should make love in the dark
you and I,
the first time when as strangers
we come
to this touching, but softly.

who says we are in hiding
in this darkness, surely not
from each other when I have held
you in my mind a thousand times
a day, in the light of day, wherein
the light created too many shadows
for us to see the substance of this
matter, which is in effect feeling
that your body is endless
in this darkness that kills all shadows
and in which ( this darkness)
the world with a stab of fire
was conceived.

so now, lie down with me
in this darkness, to embrace
this holy closeness
that gives birth, to us both.
