Poem 115: As Quiet as Thought

as quiet as thought
and so she was
on this afternoon
of all my Decembers
waiting, for her
and this gift of silence
gathering all of my life
to this temple gate
circled in gold
and rivered in a sunset
of garden and tree
felt now as a silent
singing of me
into her star-lit space
of kind and easy movement
moving easy
as mountain and morning
flowers of sunlight
and sun dark, for so
she is deep and warm
as a sundown of summer
skies going down on me
to be so close to me
now breathing in each
others breath and holding
in the space of one heartbeat
a stillness that travels
outward forever
to remain within me
as the sound and being
of my love, for so she is
a wide and peaceful song
singing gently louder
than all the life of this world
and making me
for this season of holding me
a still as she is
and more quiet than thought
